Usually called Gay, she graduated from Texas Woman’s University with a BSN and later completed her masters degree in Public Health with emphasis on Maternal Child Health (MPH/MCH) while working in the National Health Service Corps, where she served Appalachian patients in AL, WV, OH, KY, and NY. Most of Gay’s career as a nurse practitioner has been devoted to improving the health and well-being of residents in rural communities.

Gay’s focus in her later career turned to maintaining health and optimizing function, rather than specifically treating illness in a Primary Care capacity. Here at Muntean Health Care, she is collaborates with Dr. Jay McDougal to provide general primary care services, in addition to offering services focused on preventative medicine and bio-identical hormone replacement therapy.

Preventative Medicine

Gay believes it is important to view a patient’s health condition(s) within the context of the patient’s optimal, desired functional capacities. She delights in helping patients reach their goals, and does so through a sustained, multi-appointment approach utilizing laboratory and diagnostic test and nutritional/hormonal evaluation to assess patients’ target weight, toxic load, diet, and capacity for increased activity and exercise. Her approach is not a quick fix, and requires patient interest and commitment to achieve safe, long-lasting outcomes.

Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy

The process of aging is universal, but the manner in which each of us ages is as unique as our fingerprints. To better manage the physiological changes of the aging process for both males and females, Gay has utilized custom-compounded bio-identical hormone replacement therapies since the 1990’s. Ordering custom-compounded hormones allows her to adjust the treatment course to your body’s specific needs, rather than the standardized offerings that are mass-manufactured by pharmaceutical companies. Gay can work with your current primary care provider to manage your compounded bio-identical hormone treatment regimen, so that you do not have to change your provider.
